A couple of upsets this round saw my tipping take another tumble. How did you go?
Fri 01Jul11 (my tips)
#AFLDogsDees 4.5 8.9 13.10 19.13 (127) def 2.4 4.9 7.13 8.15 (63)
Sat 02Jul11
- #AFLTigersBlues 1.4 4.6 6.8 12.9 (81) def by 5.2 11.7 20.13 28.16 (184). This is Carlton’s highest score against Richmond since Richmond entered the VFL in 1908. Before this, the biggest score against them was in the 1972 Grand Final (but Richmond got 150 points on that day!). The biggest margin against them still remains at 115 points (I’m still trying to ascertain the details of that match. When I find them, this bracketed sentence will be replaced). My ¼-by-¼ stats (but not the third quarter for some reason) are at http://bit.ly/kVTzi3
- #AFLFreoSuns 3.2 7.2 13.5 17.10 (112) def 4.1 7.5 8.8 9.8 (62). A bit of a scare for punters at half-time, with the Suns ahead by three points. Appears, however, that whatever the Freo coach said to his charges at the main break worked, coz they then came out with 6.3 to 1.3 in the third!
- #AFLDonsCats 4.3 8.4 13.5 18.7 (115) def 3.3 5.7 9.12 16.15 (111). A part-time Bombers-supporter I know was in town for the Tutankhamen exhibition this weekend and asked me if he should go to the match. After all, it was against Geelong and they weren’t expected to win. I said that, as a full-time Carlton supporter, the only other time I’ve seen my boys win (apart from at the SCG in April) was at the NAB Cup when we beat the Swans by 100 points; we actually plan holidays and social occasions around the fixture! I think that gent will be a happy man when I speak to him on Monday!
- #AFLCrowsSwans 2.1 3.4 5.5 8.9 (57) def 3.1 4.5 4.10 6.14 (50). With shooting like this, the Swans deserved not to win!
Sun 03Jul11
- #AFLLionsPort 4.1 7.3 13.5 15.9 (99) def 4.2 8.5 13.6 13.10 (88). "somehow I don’t think I’m going to get this one" was my comment this morning, and I was right (if I'd have changed the tip, though, the result would have been different!)
- #AFLPiesHawks 4.4 8.7 13.10 15.16 (106) def 0.4 2.4 6.6 9.11 (65). "Should be a sitter for the Pies" was my earlier comment, and the headline as I turned on to update this was "Magpies brush Hawks aside".
- #AFLNorthSaints 3.2 7.3 9.6 10.10 (70) def by 3.4 10.5 12.7 12.7 (79). I had said earlier that, "Neither side is having that good a run at the moment, but the Roos have pulled out a couple of surprises in recent weeks." Unfortunately the Saints did the pulling today (again with the 20/20 hindsight), despite being kept scoreless in the last. That brought my tipping down to 3 from 8! Bleaghh!!
That makes the ladder

Fri 08Jul11 (my tips)
#AFLEaglesCats from 20:40 AWST @ Subi
Sat 09Jul11
- #AFLHawksLions from 14:10 @ Aurora Stadium, Launnie
- #AFLDonsTigers from 19:10 @ the G – I would like to think that the Dons will continue their winning ways, but by the same token the Tiges will have a lot to prove after this week’s shellacking by the Blues!
- #AFLSunsSwans from 19:10 @ Metricon – the Swans won’t embarrass themselves by losing this one
Sun 10Jul11
- #AFLPiesNorth from 13:10 @ the G
- #AFLPortSaints from 15:10 ACST @ AAMI – Neither Port nor Saints are doing well this year. Saints should get this one
- #AFLDogsBlues from 16:40 @ Etihad
Three-way bye next week (Adelaide, Fremantle, Melbourne) means a bye in Dream Team
Happy Apple Pie Day for tomorrow!
